Moi.
Mikael Ståhle
I’m a product designer in Helsinki. My work spans a banking app, a grocery service, and software for designing ships.
Best week is still the first one, when nobody knows what the thing is yet.
I like to start with something built rather than a brief or a wireframe — rough, unfinished, but real enough to react to. That’s where the actual problems show up: the spacing, the sequence, the flow that breaks first.
Design isn’t only drawing anymore. Files turn into components, agents take the half of the job that was always admin. I have watched the tools get replaced five times, so I would rather learn the new ones early than defend the old ones.
Building
- Book Shelf Recent read, as a shelf of spines.
- Lippakioski A walk around Helsinki’s old kiosks, and their history.
Say moi
For a new thing, a second opinion, or an argument about prototypes.

Work
Plus a handful more along the way.
Live online yoga. Brand identity, iOS, Android, Apple TV and web, and the design team that made them. Five awards, including Apple’s Best Apple TV App of 2016.

Before
I started at sixteen and did all of it at once — graphics, print, websites — chasing whatever tool the job needed: Paint Shop Pro to Photoshop to web design to Macromedia Flash. Company of my own from 2003. One summer I drew CAD for a water and wastewater engineering firm — pipes, not pixels.
